Construction is underway at Kittitian Hill, a new 18 hole golf course on the island of St Kitts in the Caribbean. Designed by European Golf Design, in association with US Masters winner and 2006 Ryder Cup Captain Ian Woosnam, the course sits on the lower slopes of Mount Liamuiga, with each hole offering panoramic views of the Caribbean sea and surrounding islands.

The golf course forms part of Kittitian Hill Resort, a community committed to sustainable developments and responsible tourism. Residential properties will be built for sale including Spa Cottages, Hotel Cottages, Luxury Villas and Townhouses, all of which may be placed in the rental programme. The Village will consist of restaurants, artists’ studios, an infinity pool and screening room. Future plans include a film festival in the outdoor amphitheatre. A Beach Club, Tennis Courts and Luxurious Spa will also form part of the development. Sedona Resorts will manage the entire resort.

At 6,825 yards, the par 72 golf course makes the most of the natural terrain to create a unique golf course that uses the numerous ghauts (valleys) providing testing hazards that must be negotiated to reach the rolling green complexes. In keeping with the sustainable ethos of the resort the golf course is also designed to address a number of social and environmental issues. These include careful use of resources such as conserving water by utilising native grasses that match the climate, maintaining and monitoring the quality of natural watersheds and groundwater, using locally sourced materials, and integrating food producing plants into the golf landscape which can be harvested for use within the community.

Val Kempadoo Managing Director of Terra Forma Developments developers of Kittitian Hill said “We are thrilled that construction has commenced on the golf course, and to be working with Ian Woosnam and European Golf Design.

Gary Johnston, Designer from European Golf Design, “We are delighted that construction is underway on this project. The views from the site are quite amazing, with sea views on every hole the course promises to be an exciting and beautiful development that blends harmoniously with the environment.

Construction of the golf commenced in February and is due for completion in Autumn 2012. Phase 1 of the resort opens in December 2012.

European Golf Design, are the joint venture design company of the European Tour and IMG. Formed in 1992 European Golf Design have designed over 30 courses throughout Europe, The Middle East and South Africa with another 30 currently in the design or construction phase.

The Twenty Ten Ryder Cup Course at Celtic Manor is a European Golf Design course. Projects currently under design and construction include those in Croatia, Holland, Morocco, Portugal, Russia and Spain.

This essential annual guide to the 138th Open Championship at Turnberry packed full of everything you need to know about enjoying golf’s most famous event, according to the publishers.

What would Tiger Woods be doing if he wasn’t playing golf? How is Padraig Harrington shaping up to be the first player since Peter Thomson in 1956 to win three successive Opens? And how is Rory McIIroy dealing with the pressure of being the young newcomer?
Find out the answers by reading interviews from key contender Tiger Woods, last year’s winner, Padraig Harrington and other major challengers, including Greg Norman; Paul Casey and golf’s rising star, Rory McIlroy.

Ian Woosnam states in his forward: “There has never been a clear winner at Turnberry and with Tiger back in the hunt there will be no easy path to the Claret Jug. Padraig Harrington is out to make history while Paul Casey is playing superb golf.”

Ian Woosnam’s Guide to the Open 2009 features a hole-by-hole course guide and Angus Loughran’s exclusive betting tips. In addition, a lifestyle section features the latest golf fashion and equipment, while there are guides to the best places abroad to look for golf property and to visit for a golf holiday.

Ian Woosnam’s Guide to the Open 2009 is available to buy for £3.75 from high street retailers or view the FREE digital edition of the magazine and sign up to receive more FREE sports editions too.
